![]() Having more peaceful and quiet time before sleep has other benefits for dreams and memory as well. Incorporating reading or writing into your nightly routine is a good way. Find something productive to do in that time before sleep that doesn't involve the computer. It's not easy, but we really need to set a time to step away from the computer and spend an hour "preparing" for sleep. What happened is that sleep has to smack me across the face before I'd crawl into bed. More and more research talks about the effects of unnatural, bright light, and visual stimulation and how it affects the body and wards away the sleepy feeling. I have problems getting to sleep at a reasonable time, and it's a gradual slide towards a later and later time, because I'll put myself in front of the computer so I'll be doing something while I wait for sleep to come. I really do think this is the biggest problem. This may not work for you, and I will certainly offer more advice if you wish (this comment is already tl dr) but good luck! I didn't know about f.lux back then and gave myself a "no glowing things after 2am" rule, then started adjusting my bedtimes by one hour earlier each night until I felt better. Look up how melatonin, a natural sleep aid of sorts, production is hampered by artificial blue light. You might be interested in the program called f.lux which eases eye strain and helps you feel more tired at night when using an LCD monitor. Turns out I didn't have a sleep disorder, I was just using my computer monitor too much and too late. It wasn't until later that year when I was forced into a sudden employment that required me to be up early that my cycle was fixed. I self-diagnosed myself with delayed sleep phase syndrome after having fit all the (somewhat vague) symptoms. /r/FrugalLearning - An affordable approach to learning.įor a year or so I had difficulty falling asleep before 4am, and I would rise after 8-9 hours well rested but guilty./r/LifeLongLearning - A place to share and learn about the wealth of free resources available on the internet to develop your mind, skills, and understanding in all subjects./r/RedditDayOf - Where everyday is a new topic for readers to research and post the best information they can find on the subject./r/LanguageLearning - Resources for those wanting to learn to speak/read a new language./r/LearnProgramming - Programming resources for new developers./r/Answers - Get answers to the questions about "everything you ever wanted to know about anything but were afraid to ask.".If you believe your post has been inappropriately flagged as spam, please message the moderators with a link to your post and we'll sort it out for you.Īlso, check out No Excuse List and The Zencyclopedia, created by members of our community for links to other great resources for learning new things!
